The City of Boston is committed to promoting naturalization in Boston as Mayor Walsh proved when he presided over the first Naturalization Ceremony in the historic Faneuil Hall in June 2014, held a second naturalization ceremony in his office, and signed a letter of agreement with USCIS director Leon Rodriguez promising to jointly build resources for eligible residents seeking citizenship. The Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians also collaborates with the Office of Health & Human Services, the Boston Center for Youth & Families, and Project Citizenship to host Citizenship Days. Citizenship Day 2014 provided nearly 200 residents with eligibility screenings, information about the citizenship application, and legal services in the five free simultaneous Citizenship Clinics assembled across the city. The Office of New Bostonians also launched New American Corners in partnership with Boston City Scape VISTA and holds stakeholder meetings with funders, stakeholders, and nonprofits to develop its naturalization program and reach Boston’s approximately 44,000 eligible legal permanent residents.
