Mayor Jim Kenney and the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Immigrant Affairs in collaboration with the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society – Pennsylvania, Nationalities Service Center, Esperanza Immigration Legal Services, St. Thomas Aquinas, Community College of Philadelphia and other community groups launched the campaign Step Up to Citizenship, which seeks to increase naturalization rates among the city’s approximately 50,000 legal permanent residents.

The campaign has partnered with other groups to hold numerous free citizenship information sessions, screenings and naturalization ceremonies throughout the city. Every year, the campaign holds its signature event – a pro bono legal clinic – at the Community College of Philadelphia, where applicants who have been screened and deemed eligible for citizenship will receive legal assistance to complete their naturalization application. For more information on dates and locations see the Step Up to Citizenship website.
