AUSTIN, Texas — The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services welcomed 300 new U.S. citizens at the Twin Oaks Library in Austin on Friday.
USCIS Immigration Services Officer Angela Dodd administered the Oath of Allegiance at the 10 a.m. naturalization ceremony at 1800 S. 5th St.
The 300 new citizens hail from 68 countries including Azerbaijan, Croatia, France, Luxemburg, Poland, and Ukraine, according to the USCIS.
Approximately 808,000 citizens were naturalized in 2021 across the United States, according to the USCIS. To file for a citizenship application, click here.
The City of Austin and the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) are encouraging eligible permanent residents living in Austin to apply and obtain their citizenship by the end of 2022.
Following the naturalization ceremony, NPNA spoke at a press conference on its nationwide "Naturalize 2 Million by 2022!" campaign. It's meant to educate and empower eligible permanent residents through their naturalization process. The campaign tour will travel to several cities including Los Angeles, McAllen, San Antonio, Chicago, Milwaukee, as well as cities in Maryland and New York.

This effort will build momentum for "New American Voters 2022," a digital campaign encouraging millions of newly naturalized citizens to vote in the upcoming elections. Texas has the third-largest number of permanent residents eligible for naturalization, with over 57,000 in the Austin area.
